Event planning for global consumer goods business.

This organisation launches a new direct selling catalogue once a month with new promotions. These create huge demand surges in an area stretching from Vladivostok to Cork. The challenge was how to manage this, without simply hoping that forecasting would mysteriously improve.

The solution was know which the critical items are; to really understand how big the forecast errors were likely to be; to apply statistics to the contingencies of inventory, to capacity and to the part made product required to achieve target service levels; and reconciling these to real action dates on the ground. This allowed the choices to be explicit, allowing the organisation to trade-off between risks of excess stock and service. This approach transformed the supply chain performance through their critical fourth quarter surge in demand.
