We worked with them and a number of their major suppliers to establish the benefit of reduced lead times and manufacturing batch sizes and improved reliability of supply. We demonstrated that with relatively challenging but achievable improvements in these three key indicators, stock cover could be reduced by more than 50% while lost sales through lack of product availability could be virtually eliminated. We then worked with the client to pilot this with three suppliers – by putting in place a programme of improvement in the three critical areas of performance we demonstrated that the improvements in customer service and inventory levels were achievable..
